Some common causes of chronic cough include asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis (sinus infection example), and esophageal reflux of stomach contents.

On rare occasions, chronic cough can result from aspiration of foreign objects into the lungs (usually in children).

Coughing is a reflex that keeps the throat and airways clear. Although it can be annoying, coughing helps your bodies heals or protect itself. The cough can be acute or chronic.

Acute coughs begin suddenly and usually last no more than 2 to 3 weeks. Acute cough is the type most often with a cold or flu. Chronic cough lasts more than 2 to 3 weeks.

Coughing is an action that your body needs to get rid of substances that are irritating to airways that carry air we breathe in the nose and mouth to the lungs.

The cough occurs when special cells along the airways become irritated and trigger a chain of events. The result? Air in the lungs is forced out under pressure.

You can choose to cough (a voluntary process), or your body may cough on its own (an involuntary process). Coughing is a reflex initiated by stimulation of sensory nerves in the lining of the airways – the tubes we use to breathe.

When a person coughs, there is a lack of air consumption and the larynx (voice box) closes momentarily. The abdominal and chest used for breathing contract, which in turn increases the pressure needed to push air into the lungs when the larynx re-opens.

The blast of air coming out at high speed, washing and cleaning of the airway secretions of dust, dirt or excessive. Cough is a common symptom in the airways is “tight” as in asthma.

There are many bad cough remedies that are readily available and inexpensive, requiring common elements of the house or cooking ingredients.
